Branding. The importance of good identity – Part 1
A strong and well designed brand can be one of the most important assets when thinking about how you appear to the outside world. Brands can convey and build customer trust and make your business stand out from the crowd. Every time someone sees your brand it will create a subconscious message about who you are!
Branding and reputation go hand in hand. Once you establish a strong brand, people associate a degree of trust to it. Think of some well known brands such Heinz, BWM, Coca-Cola. If they were to bring a new product to market it would instantly be trusted and recognised. How many of us have bought a product because you know the label… branding is powerful stuff.
Your brand should be consistent throughout all of your marketing material, in fact anywhere anyone will see your business, whether that be letterhead, brochure, website, shop front, packaging or van livery etc. The best way to achieve a powerful and useful brand is to talk to a graphic designer that understands the importance of your products and services and the markets that you work within.
A common belief is that a brand is simply a logo. The logo is just one part of a brand – although it’s often seen most frequently by the greatest number of people. Your logo should use key factors to make it distinctive and recognisable.
Your brand name is important and will set the tone and feel of how you are perceived. Choosing the correct name is tough, it’s very important to check that you don’t use a name already in use and protected by law.
As you can see getting your branding correct is a major issue, time and effort need to be applied at the onset to make sure this is right.
In our next article we will discuss how to create a successful brand and brand identity. Part 2 can be viewed here.
